Owner Return
If an animal
has tags, the owner will be notified. Animals are boarded for $10 per day, and the owner is responsible for cost.
If after 10 days no one has claimed the animal or the identity of the owner cannot be found, the animal is
eligible for adoption.
Spaying/Neutering
Young, healthy animals
may be spayed or neutered as early as 8-10 weeks. By state law, any animal adopted from an animal shelter must be
spayed or neutered.
Educational Programs
The NNHS is community-oriented.
Information about animal welfare, care, and training is available at the Shelter, and presentations are given by
volunteers to schools, youth and adult organizations, and interested business groups.
Foster Care
NNHS has an active foster care program. When the Shelter becomes
overfull, to prevent unnecessary euthanasia, healthy, sociable dogs and cats are given to volunteers who foster
the animals until a new home can be found for them.
Microchips
The animal shelter now offers a service of implanted microchips. All adopted dogs and cats now have
the chips as part of the adoption fee . Members of the general public may have the chips embedded in their pets
at a low cost.
